With limited space and thousands of books to choose from, it should come as no surprise that we are highly selective when choosing our stock. Below, you will find two general categories that outline what we do and do not buy. Please read it carefully, as it can save you, and us, time.
Used Book Guidelines
Good quality used books and videos
bought, sold and traded on all subjects.
We usually consider books for purchase every day, generally up
to one hour before we close. However, depending on volume,
we frequently stop buying earlier. It’s a good idea to come
in earlier rather than later and, if in doubt, call ahead.
Subject areas actively purchased:
Art, architecture, photography, antiques, history, California history,
Western Americana, Native American history, classics, music
(including songbooks and instrument instruction books), drama,
poetry, mythology, philosophy, eastern philosophy, yoga, Buddhism, metaphysics, Christian history, bibles, concordances, commentaries, spiritual psychology,
Jungian psychology, newer cookbooks, boating, aviation, gardening,
construction, foreign language, dictionaries, writing,
military history, martial arts, modern popular fiction (very selectively),
children’s books (selectively), books-on-cd and old radio shows,
comic books, graphic novels (no manga), signed books, Folio Society, Easton Press,
Franklin Library, Heritage Press, & Modern Library.
We also occasionally buy sets of The Great Books and The Harvard Classics.
Many other subjects considered on an “as-needed” basis-
check with us for our current needs.
Material not usually purchased:
Textbooks or schoolbooks, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, Book Club fiction,
computer books, Manga, encyclopedias, magazines, romance novels, outdated books,
ex-library books, books in poor condition, highlighted or underlined.
Mass market pocketbook paperbacks accepted in trade only for more pocketbooks.
We actively buy and trade DVD movies. DVDs are bought and traded on a per DVD
basis depending on our selling price. We no longer buy VHS movies,
as we are slowly phasing them out in favor of DVDs.
